Well, as I have never been to the Sporades apart from landing briefly on Skiathos, I can proceed no further. It's definitely Nigel, though.....

Actually Chris, I think you'll find that the cat is in fact 'Nigella'. Her brother met with an unfortunate accident involving a meat pie I believe.

Given the derivation of Nigel/Nigella, it's more likely the cat was called Bouboulina - with apologies to all Nigel's everywhere the Greeks are far too sensible to have anything sounding remotely similar.

Kidder is correct about the location - this is where we ended up on our day out from Gatwick.

I just read out the report to Carol John, and a big grin spread across her face, and she said, "Bl**dy Hell!"

Very reminiscent of the "pumice quarries" on Naxos but it looks more like natural erosion than mining.
