Yay! Beaufort Wind Force Scale. it is.

  • 3-Gentle breeze - Leaves and small twigs constantly moving, light flags extended.
  • 5-Fresh breeze - Branches of a moderate size move. Small trees in leaf begin to sway.
  • 9-Severe gale - Some branches break off trees, and some small trees blow over.
  • 12-Hurricane - Very widespread damage to vegetation.

Given that it was developed for the Royal Navy, it's always struck me as odd that it uses so much vegetation to differentiate between each level, after all there are not many trees in mid Atlantic. General knowledge - Page 4 713175

What education link connects, amongst other notables, a former disc jockey. now a TV presenter, a science fiction author (who died young) and a former Labour Government minister

Well. I waited two days and ..............

DJ-cum-presenter: Noel Edmonds who went to Brentwood School.

Other alumni were:
Douglas Adams - brief life of Sci-Fi

Jack Straw - was NUS President, like (Lord) John Prescott, although Jack's S-es were Students, not Seamen.

The voice behind the camera was Kent Walton. The show would be 'Cool for Cats'
Apparently there were two pseudonyms for Kent Walton. 'Ralph Solomans' and 'Elton Hawke', which were shared between him and his business partner, 'Hazel Adair'
All courtesy of that nice man Mr. Google.

Jean got the pseudonymous bit, which brought you to Kent Walton..

"Cool For Cats" was a late-night pop music programme, which featured the Lionel Blair Dancers.

The pop band "Squeeze" had a major hit with "Cool For Cats".

However, there is still the dratted colourless cat ...... it may pay to advertise.

But Chas, what is the connection between Kent Walton, the Lionel Blair dancers and the pop band squeeze? I am mystified as the the one thing that links them all

"Cool For Cats"

  1. Title of a pop programme presented by Kent Walton and featuring Lionel Blair and his dancers.

  2. Title of a hit record released by "Squeeze", an 80s band featuring Jools Holland (among others).

Not Arthur, this cat was unnamed.

Back in those days (late 50s, early 60s) the product was thought to be "cool".

The cat only appeared on the packaging and in the product name. Kent Walton was "the voice artist".

Well, I can only award four out of six, I had to do a lot of steering ....... oops, sorry, this isn't Round Britain Quiz - it just felt that way.

My BIG problem, now, is working out who won!

Jean, Joy and Jim {alphabetically and chronologically} provided important pieces of the answer, so I suppose whoever of them posts a question first should be declared winner. General knowledge - Page 4 644566 General knowledge - Page 4 694265
