No Chas, no need to expand. Stick with the diet and post a question.

Re: General knowledge
How good is your Anglo-Saxon
In north Mercia (now know as Cheshire), there are a couple of place-names which commemorate famous kings.
One was known for his skills with fortifications; his place is where he had his stronghold.
The other was famed for his command of the seas; his place notes his keeping his feet dry(ish).
What are these two "towns"

Re: General knowledge
Cnut (Knut, Canute) and Knutsford is right but there's only been a mention of t'other bloke (by Jean) and nothing of his "whereabouts".

Re: General knowledge
Thoughtful answer .... just not the one I had in mind
The "stronghold" {translation from the Anglo-Saxon} I was thinking of was built on cliffs above the Mersey, well inland from the defensive wall which this king built.

Re: General knowledge
Sorry, no.
The Anglo-Saxon word "tun" means a stronghold; as in "Orme's Tun", which became corrupted over the millennium to "Urmston".
So, this place is "some king's nameton".
