May be a silly question but, is the 'noble' name a character in the Odyssey?

No. Not at all. The noble surname is a common-ish British surname.

Ah I see! A 'common-ish' 'noble' surname. How splendid!

Such as Windsor?

What is the connection between this ancient Scottish oak tree and Shakespeare's Macbeth?

Yep, it's said to be the last remaining oak tree of Birnam Wood.

One of the three witches' prophecies in Macbeth said:

'Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill shall come against him.'

Malcolm's army camouflaged themselves with branches from Birnam Wood before advancing on Macbeth's castle and defeating him.

That would work - but it's not what I was after.

James Joyce is part of the answer.
