She made a large contribution to science, but she's more or less forgotten.

Ada Lovelace was a {second}cousin of Byron, although it's doubtful they ever met. She assisted Charles Babbage design his Difference Engine by undertaking many intricate and convoluted calculations, thus earning herself the accolade of "The First Computer Programer".
She is little remembered now, except for the programing language "ADA" which is used for real-time military and weapon programs.
