Having googled ( ), I think it's Tynwald Hill and St John's Chapel where the Isle of Man parliament meets once a year. It's a tradition dating back to the 15th century and is called the Midsummer Court.

I think that's close enough - the exact connection is that there is a service in the chapel before the main ceremony promulgating laws takes place.
(The Manx parliament does meet on other days as well - this is purely ceremonial - a bit like the opening of parliament)

I should add that the lepidopterist is, fairly obviously, The Collector (of butterflies), the setting for The Magus was inspired by the island of Spetses and The French Lieutenant's Woman was set in Lyme Regis, Dorset.......just to make it clear.
