He was a stud cat, kept in a cage all his early years. When his abilities diminished, he was turfed out. A vet had to shave his fur off it was so matted and tangled. As a Persian you can imagine what he must have gone through.

Poor old chap, hope he's leading a happier life now, although from the expression on his face it seems doubtful.......... or do Persians always look like that?

Re: The best looking cat in the world
I have written a small piece about him in the newsletter I produce for our local branch.
The name Gwinfor Iorwen does not easily trip off
the tongue as a conventional name for a cat, but, fondly shortened to
‘Gwinnie’, by PJ, it becomes a very suitable title for a cat full of character,
as can be seen from his picture.
Described as having a face that “could only be loved by a mother”
Gwinnie has found in PJ as good a mother as he could possibly hope for.
Gwinnie still has a little work to do to live up to the English
translation of his posh Welsh name, ‘Handsome Fair Lord’. However, considering
his background, he is not doing too bad at all.
Having spent most of his early life ‘behind bars’ as a stud cat, he
is making the most of his new found freedom, getting the nickname of ‘Dustbin
Cat’ into the bargain.
Having fulfilled his duties to his former owners, by fathering
many offspring, he was abandoned to the care of a vet who had the
thankless task of shaving off all of Gwinnie’s fur, due to it becoming matted
and tangled. As he is a proud Persian of
course, this left him looking slightly the worse for wear. Now his fur is
growing back well and he is making his presence felt by taking over conversations
with his persistent and almost intelligible ‘cat talk’ , completely ignoring requests for him
to shut up, by closing his eyes and talking even louder.
His freedom to roam gets him into all sorts of scrapes, and due to
his expertise in breaking into PJ’s fridge and freezer, and successfully getting past an assortment
of heavy objects placed in his way, child proof locks have had to be fitted.
However the kitchen cupboards are a different matter. PJ regularly finds Gwinnie inside one of the cupboards searching for cheese,
his favourite and most passionately sought after food, having extracted most of
the contents first. On more than one occasion, he has been caught red handed
festooned with Corn Flakes! Well a guy has got to eat!
Gwinnie has also developed a great skill in entering waste bins in
his ceaseless search for cheese, which of course does not enhance his
appearance. PJ regularly finds him covered in
burrs, grass and leaves as he come home from one of his expeditions.
Ten year old “Madame Mischief”, one of PJ’s other cats, just about
tolerates the newcomer, but keeps him in his place with a well timed swipe or a
hiss in his ear if he intrudes too far into her space.
So, like all Cats Protection volunteers PJ has given a fine home to
an unloved animal. His life has changed so much and can only improve under the
care of PJ and no matter what he looks like, PJ loves him to bits.
