Re: Where in Greece?
Jean has the town. Athens it is.
Probably too much to ask for the hotel name., but it was named for a place in Northern Greece, where the Athenians and Spartans gathered to face Xerxes, but were outflanked and bypassed by the Persians.
Any Guesses?

Not Thermopylae Lydia. This (non) event took place a short while before that one.
Not that it matters for the question really, I just thought it would be added interest.

Is it Thassos town? We walked up here in 1983 and hardly anything was visible but it was still a delightful place with lovely views.
Re: Where in Greece?
That's correct Chris It's a beautiful spot.
We last visited in 1998.

Re: Where in Greece?
Tempe it is Lydia.
Situated in Eolu street as I recall, in Monastiraki. From the front of the hotel there is a fine view of the Acroplolis, which was the best thing about the place when we were there some 15 years ago. If your suitcase was slightly bigger than average you had extreme difficulty getting up the very narrow stairs. (No lift)
They also had the habit of multi letting rooms, so that whoever turned up first got the room, and the rest were directed to other establishments.
The furniture was made from the remains of the ark and felt very unsafe when lying down on the bed.
The area surrounding the hotel though I found to be fascinating as it gave reasonable access to some of the less frequented attractions such as the fish market, and the Plaka. I also ate the biggest Barbounia I have ever seen in Greece, just around the corner from the hotel.
It may well have been done up since then so my negative comments could well be out of place by now.
Sorry about the lengthy addition to the thread, I get carried away sometimes.

Re: Where in Greece?
Well, because of our comuter disaster and the loss of many of our pics, I don't think I can. I guess I could get one off the internet. I'll think about it.
